Damage caused by PAS is often long term, it might not show immediately but affect children in later life. Many sufferers of PAS become dropouts from school, drug abusers, criminals and unstable themselves. They are also more likely to become bad parents due to lack of confidence and interaction with the parent they have lost due to PAS and in extreme cases of PAS they loose one whole side of the family. PAS is a form of mental abuse but, as our family courts are incompetent at even dealing with simple matters, they do not wish to even acknowledge the existence of PAS. There is no recognized policy on PAS within legal profession, CWO's (court welfare officers) or Social Services as yet but the awareness is growing mostly due to the developments in several American States, Canada and other countries around the world. Without the doubt, PAS is a serious threat to our children and must be dealt with in early stages to prevent serious damage being caused. Parents practicing PAS should be treated as child abusers of worst kind. There are many research results available worldwide and their conclusion makes frightening reading as to the consequences of PAS to our future and survival of the society as a whole if we do not act swiftly.
